Okay okay so we are clearly not cut out to be bloggers, but I will say this is more due to a lack of internet access in China and Myanmar than a lack of wit.
We spent a week in China travelling first to Beijing where we climbed the great wall, toured the forbidden city, and had one too many dumplings. After Beijing we went to Cheng Du. While Cheng Du is a transportation and commercial hub it offers little in the way of tourist destinations. We went to fulfill Allison's life long dream of hugging a baby panda. While I thought they were cute I still don't understand their appeal, but Allison loved the experience. After Cheng Du we went to Xi An to see the Teracotta Warriors. It was an amazing experience. We had no idea of the scale of the warriors nor the massive size of the archelogical site. They have to date only excavated 3 pits I can only imagine how amazing it will be when they finish the excavation process.
The next part of our trip took us to the Huang Shan mountains in the Southwest of the country. The mountains are covered in the mist of the clouds for the majority of the day which leads to amazing vistas. The area was where James Cameron sent his team of artists for inspiration for the floating mountains in Avatar. It actually looked surprisingly similar to the animated mountains in the movie -- very beautiful. We spent a night on the mountain in hopes of seeing sunset and sunrise, but the weather had other ideas. Despite missing the sunrise/sunset the weather cooperated and we enjoyed a wonderful hike around the mountains.
We loved the sights in China, but did not get to experience as much of the culture as we had hoped. Our time in China definately did change our prespectives on the country and gave us an better insight into modern China.
